The revenue in tourism declines by 2.6% YoY in May’19; overnight stays fall by 7.8%

The overnight stays in Bulgarian hotels were 1.5m in May’19, a 7.8% decrease over the prior year. The monthly revenue fell by 2.6% YoY and amounted to BGN 76.2m, as the proceeds from Bulgarian tourists advanced by 15.5% while those from foreign visitors declined by 9.9% YoY. The total number of tourists was up 0.8% YoY to 587k. The average occupancy rate of hotels was down 2.3 p.p. YoY to 21.3%, with 5&4-star and 3-star hotels operating at a 25.2% and an 18.5% capacity, respectively.
