The customs duties on about 480 types of goods originating from European Union countries are eliminated. The Bulgarian Government adopted a decision to this effect on Thursday, changing the Customs Duty Tariff by the introduction of zero charges for the import of coffee, tea, citrus fruit, quinces, raisins, hazelnuts, melons, seeds, olive oil and other products. All these goods account for less than 1% of Bulgaria's total import. The customs guarantees provided by importers who have effected the import after July 1, 2000 will be relieved immediately after the promulgation of the Council of Ministers' decree in the Official Gazette. Bulgaria and the EU have introduced zero customs duty on a reciprocal basis for the so-called sensitive goods - pork, poultry meat, lamb and sausages, tomatoes, cheese and some other products. As the EU undertook to eliminate the export subsidies for goods sold duty-free to Bulgaria, no change is expected in their prices on the local market
