May’24 current account was positive at EUR 185.3m, compared to EUR 40.8m surplus in May’23. As a result, the YtD positive balance amounted to EUR 468.3bn (0.5% of GDPe), compared with a deficit of EUR 397.6m a year ago. Total exports (17.5% of GDPe) for the Jan-May period decreased 4.4% YoY to EUR 17.5bn, while imports during the same period (19.5% of GDPe) increased slightly to EUR 19.5bn. The result was EUR 2bn trade deficit, compared to EUR 1.1bn a year ago. Meanwhile, the services balance recorded a surplus of EUR 2.4bn (2.4% of GDPe), registering 20.7% YoY increase.
5-mo capital account closed at a EUR 934.5m surplus (0.9% of GDPe), while the financial account recorded EUR 200m inflow.
May FDI in the country registered BGN 110.9m outflow, which brings the FDI since the beginning of the year to positive EUR 591.3m, down by 63.8% compared to the year-ago period.
