Balkan Airlines suffered some 3 million US dollar losses as a result of the cancelled flights from May 2 to 11 this year, Viktor Melamed of the company's PR department told journalists on Thursday. "These are the company's rough estimates which are based on the cancelled flights only; it is still not possible to estimate the lost profits," said Melamed. In the course of nine days the Balkan Airlines pilots refused to perform their duties demanding guaranties from the national carrier's management for greater safety of the flights and higher wages. As a result of their protests Balkan airlines cancelled over 90 international, domestic and charter flights. On May 11 the company's Executive Director Andrew Grey signed unilaterally basic principles on the resumption of flights. The document reads that by September an agreement will be proposed for a rise in the monthly wages in the course of three years on the basis of Balkan airlines' economic and financial indices
