The Bulgarian parliamentary budget committee will discuss on second reading Thursday the new excise duty bill, which will introduce the shock rates for 2006. The working group in charge of the draft has backed up the finance ministry's proposal to raise the duty on fuels as scheduled for 2006 and make effective the rates planned for 2008 and 2007 as early as next year. The effect of the new duties on budget revenues is assessed at BGN 320 million, which will be spent on pensions and wages. Until late on Wednesday the parliamentary group of the ruling Coalition for Bulgaria discussed the 2006 finances with premier Sergey Stanishev and cabinet ministers.
