Bulgaria to hike electricity prices from July._x000d_

The electricity tariffs will increase in July with the adjustment decisions to be taken by the power regulator, economy minister Rumen Ovcharov said on Thursday. The Kozloduy nuclear power plant, the nation's biggest electricity producer, has asked the power regulator to approve a 5% hike form July. National power grid operator has also requested a tariff increase of 15%, citing a rise in coal prices. Germany's E.ON, the majority owner of the power distributors in Varna and Gorna Oryahovitsa, said it is seeking a average increase of 6.7% for household customers, of 18% for low-voltage users and of 24% for mid-voltage users. CEZ, the majority owner of the power distributors servicing Sofia, the greater Sofia area and Pleven, has requested approval to hike household tariffs by an average of 6.9%, business tariffs by 15% and low-voltage tariffs by 19.4%. Austria's EVN, the majority owner of the power distributors based in Plovdiv and Stara Zagora, has proposed a tariff hike of 8.5%.
