Current account deficit amounted to EUR 0.5bn in January 2025

Jan’25 current account was negative at EUR 467.1m, compared to EUR 181m deficit in Jan’24. Total exports (2.9% of GDPe) for the month increased slightly (+0.1% YoY) to EUR 3.2bn, while imports during the same period (3.7% of GDPe) increased by 11.5% YoY to EUR 4.1bn. The result was EUR 0.9bn trade deficit, compared to EUR 0.4bn a year ago. Meanwhile, the services balance recorded a surplus of EUR 0.5bn (0.4% of GDPe), registering a 9.1% decrease compared to a year ago. Jan’25 capital account closed at a EUR 245bn surplus (0.2% of GDPe), while the financial account recorded EUR 34m inflow. January FDI in the country registered BGN 338m inflow, up by 17.6% compared to the year-ago period. *exp. 2024 GDP of EUR 109.3bn and 2024 GDP of EUR 103.7bn.
