The life-insurance gross written premiums of DZI increased by 9.5% y/y to EUR 10.9m. After the strong first quarter, when the life-insurance business’s contribution to the Group’s top line grew by 19.3% y/y, the second quarter was not that fruitful for DZI – it marked only a 1.4% y/y hike to EUR 5.5m. The net premiums earned increased from EUR 9.3m in H1’05 to EUR 10.4m in H1’06. The gross claims of DZI increased by 19.1% y/y to EUR 5.1m in H1’06, surpassing the growth of the gross written premiums. The net claims amounted to EUR 5.1m, up from EUR 4.0m in H1’05. The technical result on life insurance remained in the red and totalled EUR 423k in H1’06 slightly better than in H1’05 (-EUR 435k). However, on a quarterly basis the second quarter was worse than in the first: in Q1’06 the technical result was positive and amounted to EUR 80k, whereas the second quarter’s technical result stuck deeper under the ground at -EUR 503k. The net income increased by 34.7% y/y in H1’06 to EUR 1.3m. However, adjusting the net income for the “other expenses, incl. value adjustment” and “net extraordinary income” we get EUR 1.5m net income in H1’06, up by only 2.8% y/y.
