An International Monetary Fund official on Tuesday advised Bulgaria to scrap plans to build a second nuclear power plant. Peter Stella, IMF resident representative in the Balkan country, said it would have difficulties to find an investor for the project. He advised the government to rather focus on modernisation of the country’s only nuclear power plant in Kozlodui and on rehabilitation of the main coal fired thermal power complex of Maritsa East. The government has been considering to resume construction of a 1,000-megawatt nuclear reactor near Belene, which has been frozen in 1990 under pressure from environmentalists.
