The electricity production in Bulgaria registered a 5% decrease in 2024 to 37.96 TWh, the data by the Electricity System Operator (ESO) revealed. At the same time, domestic consumption increased slightly to 36.9 TWh (+1% YoY), while net exports fell 69.6% to 1 TWh. The output decline came as a result of the 10.7% drop in base load power plant production to 28.5 TWh and the 6.7% contraction of hydropower plants output to 2.9 TWh. At the same time, production of renewable energy sources in the transmission network grew by 32.2% to 3.3 TWh, and the output from the same energy sources in the distribution grid increased 32.5% to 2.3 TWh.
