Nineteen international consortia have submitted prospectuses in the bidding process for the construction of a new passenger terminal at Sofia Airport, Petko Tabakov, Deputy Transport and Communications Minister and chairman of the committee in charge of the airport's upgrading, said on Wednesday. In their prospectuses, the 19 bidders present their company profiles, on the basis of which the assessment commission should shortlist the best ones. The names of the bidders will be announced after all prospectuses are opened. By September, the assessment commission is expected to consider the prospectuses and compile a shortlist of the companies, which will have to submit offers, Tabakov said. The criteria of selection are financial stability and experience in the construction and renovation of air terminals, the Transport Ministry said. Deputy Transport Minister Apik Garabedian, who is in charge of the civil aviation administration, said that the planned repair of Sofia Airport is being conducted according to schedule and is due to be completed by August. The first stage of the upgrading involves the construction of a passenger terminal with an annual servicing capacity of 2.5 million passengers, and the construction of a new network of runways worth EUR 184 million
