Solvay Sodi to Acquire Three Companies Against Settlement of Spanish Debt.

13.03.2000

The Privatization Agency is considering an offer from Solvay Sodi AD, the nation's only soda ash producer and majority owned by Belgium's Solvay SA, to buy three state-owned companies to reduce the country's debt to Spain. The offer is for privatization of a 77% stake in the Thermal Power Plant-Devnya, a 78% stake in the Geosol-Provadiya company and an 80% stake in the plant for the extraction of limestone in the village of Chernevo. Solvay Sodi has offered to pay 20% of the total price directly to the government, with the remaining 80% going to Spain as part of an agreement between the Bulgarian and Spanish governments to settle Minerlabank's debts to Spanish creditors
