The total assets of the issue department declined by some BGN 1.573 billion in a week, or 11.5%, Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) data by January 28, 2005 show. The assets of the currency board reached BGN 12.143 billion, due to a BGN 1.556 billion drop in the government's holdings with the central bank, which in turn resulted from the buy-back of Brady bonds and the payment interests to the total amount of USD 1 billion or so. Commercial banks' holdings with the BNB surged by some BGN 39 million. The BNB sold reserve currency worth some EUR 16 million on the interbank market. Money in circulation decreased by some BGN 59 million to BGN 4.805 billion due to seasonal factors.
