Bulgaria and UK to Sign Agreement for Nuclear Co-operation.

09.06.2000

The Cabinet Thursday approved a Memorandum of Understanding between Bulgaria's State Energy and Energy Resources Agency and the UK Department of Trade and Co-operation in the field of nuclear power, said the Agency's President Ivan Shilyashki. The document has no financial parameters and is intended to specify Britain's support in the harmonisation of Bulgaria's nuclear power legislation with the EU law, co-operation and training in safe operation of nuclear facilities and in application of European standards in the construction of storages for spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. A Co-operation Agreement will be signed in London Friday between the British BNFL company and the Kozlodoui Nuclear Power Plant. The Agreement, which continues a similar Agreement signed between BNFL and the National Electric Company, does not envisage implementation of projects but covers the elaboration of programmes through which Bulgaria could tap Britain's strategic experience in nuclear power
