Bulgaria could potentially enter ERM 2 by 2018

The Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov announced Bulgaria is about to start talks on joining the euro with the 19 members of the Eurozone. According to the statement he sees a political consensus on the issue. Bulgaria is to ask the other members on a roadmap for the reforms necessary for implementing the euro currency. As a prerequisite, the country would have to join the European Exchange Rate Mechanism 2 (ERM 2) pegging the local currency to the euro.
