Bulgaria's Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) has requested business data from 190 ISPs, the regulator says in its annual report for 2004. The report contains data on 63% of the contacted ISPs. Only 30 of the ISPs have a national licence for the installation of networks and the supply of telecom services. 28 of the ISPs reported annual income in excess of 200,000 levs for 2004 while their combined revenues added up to 50 mln levs. The said 28 ISPs accounted for 75-80% of the sector's earnings in 2004. Internet access generated revenues for 70 mln levs for the ISPs last year. Over 63% of the revenues came from non-commutable access and less than 5% from commutable access. VoIP contributed 30% of the carriers' turnover. The CRC estimates the number of ISP subscribers to 113,000 with business clients accounting for 30%. The domestic ISPs invested over 5 mln levs in their business last year and have set aside as much cash for 2005. Five of the nation's 600 cable operators have notified the CRC that their networks in 20 population centers are wired for Internet access.
