The Ministry of Finance of Bulgaria announced that it won’t file a convergence report for the purposes of euro adoption from 1 January 2024. According to the Ministry, the decision was taken because the country did not meet the entry criteria on inflation and had not made some necessary legal changes. However, the move also comes as the widespread movement for a referendum on the topic is gaining momentum in Bulgaria. According to the Minister of Finance – Rositsa Velkova, Bulgaria should seek to join the common currency by 2025 or possibly earlier.
