Shumen-based aluminium producer Alcomet will spend USD 15 mln to modernise production and improve output and quality by the end of 2006, sales manager Maia Chilikova said on the sidelines of the ongoing Plovdiv Technical Fair. Last year, Alcomet invested in the production of wrap aluminium foil, rising output capacity to 1,000-1,100 tons monthly, said Chilikova. The company intends to muscle in on the European market for aluminium foil. Alcomet, 74.6%-owned by Turkey's Alumetal, posted sales of BGN 101 mln in 2004, while assets increased to BGN 142 mln. The company exports 85% of its production, mainly to Germany and Italy. Alcomet's biggest domestic competitor is Steelmet, the Pernik-based aluminium sections plant, owned by Greece's Viohalco
