Bulgarian beer maker Kamenitza AD will focus on packaging innovations in 2006, the company's director general Johan De Smet Van Damme announced. Van Damme said the beer maker's solid performance in 2005 was due to the PET bottle segment and the offering of value packages at lower unit price. Kamenitza, owned by the world's biggest brewer by volume InBev, sold a market-leading 1.448 mln hectoliters of beer last year, shows data of Union of Brewers in Bulgaria. Zagorka AD, owned by Dutch Heineken and Greek Coca-Cola HBC, finished a close runner-up with 1.415 mln hectoliters while Carlsberg Bulgaria was third with 887,063 hectoliters. The flagship brand Kamenitza rang up sales of 800,000 hectoliters in 2005, making it the best-selling domestic beer. According to data of market intelligence firm ACNielsen cited by Kamenitza AD, the Kamenitza brand controls a market share of 18%. The other brands marketed here by Kamenitza AD are Astika, Burgasko, Slavena, Beck's, Stella Artois and Staropramen. InBev invested BGN 86.3 mln in Bulgaria in the 1997-2005 period. The investment program for 2006 will be announced later this month.
