A bilateral working group will be set up to discuss the opportunities for corrections in the prices and the fees for the transit of Russian natural gas after a decision to this end was taken at the Thursday meeting between Bulgarian Prime Minister Ivan Kostov and Gazprom CEO Rem Vyakhirev. According to Gazprom Board of Directors member Bogdan Budzulyak, concrete figures for the reduction of gas prices were not discussed with Kostov. Budzulyak noted the investment programme being implemented has already seen the completion of two compression stations - Strandja and Kardam, with the construction of a third one currently underway in Provadiya. The construction of as many as 140 km of the network for the transit of Russian natural gas via Bulgarian territory has been completed. The construction of another 90 km is scheduled to finish any moment now, Budzulyak said, adding that Bulgargaz could agree with Gazprom to reschedule the repayment of the USD 47 million credit released by the Russian company in late 1999 in connection with the investment programme. He said that Gazprom is interested in the privatization of facilities of the Bulgarian energy sector and more specifically, in the distribution utilities that Bulgargaz will spin off
