The assets of the Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF), a legal entity authorised to pay off deposits kept with banks whose licences have been revoked, rose to BGN 502.77m after the domestic commercial banks paid their annual premiums. Only two of the lenders missed the Apr 1 remittance deadline but only by a day. Each bank is required by law to remit to the DIF an annual premium contribution equal to 0.5% of the total amount of the deposit base for the preceding year, determined on an average daily basis.
