Euroins Insurance Group (EIG) and its parent company, Eurohold Bulgaria (EUBG), have filed a Request for Arbitration against the Government of Romania at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. According to the statement published by EUBG, the claim exceeds EUR 500m. The move is reportedly related to the failure of the Romanian state to observe its obligations under the bilateral investment treaty between Bulgaria and Romania, including its obligation to provide fair and equitable treatment to the companies. Recall that in March 2023, the Romanian financial authority withdrew the license of Euroins Romania, which caused the bankruptcy of the insurer in June 2023.
