23.06.2000

The Government has agreed with the IMF that the profit tax will be reduced by some 7-8%, and an equal rate will be introduced, a financial expert commented. That implies that small and medium size businesses will have to pay the same tax of 20%. Personal income tax will be reduced with a percentage, equal to the social insurance instalments - some 2-3% per category. Tax-exempt minimum will be bound to the minimal salary, which the cabinet wants to be raised to BGN 100. Moreover, IMF is willing to consider fixed utility tariffs, but only for the current year. The IMF will consider the proposal of the Bulgarian businessmen on introduction of the so-called silent agreement in the licensing procedures, as a step towards reducing bureaucracy in the procedures. In other words, if applicants for a license do not receive written response within a month after their application, they can consider themselves licensed
