With the majority of more than four thousand votes, Ivan Kostov was re-elected by the National Conference of the ruling Union of Democratic Forces as the Union's leader. At its congress the Union of Democratic Forces set as a main target before the party holding successful talks with the EU. The other objectives set by the UDF include: achieving lasting non-inflation economic growth, development of competitive industrial production, agriculture and services, conducting a realistic social policy and guarantying human rights. These priorities stated in the resolution of the UDF congress which ended on Sunday, will underlie the Union's government programme till the end of its mandate in 2001. This programme is expected to be made public by March 15. According to the resolution of the congress, the achievement of the above-mentioned priorities in the last year of the UDF's mandate will secure a successful implementation of the Bulgaria 2001 programme and will allow the United Democratic Forces to ask for another mandate at the coming parliamentary elections so that Bulgaria continue on its European path of development
