MobilTel, Bulgaria's dominant wireless telecom operator, is now marketing Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution-enabled PC cards. EDGE, which is a radio-based high-speed mobile data standard that can be integrated into GSM/GPRS and IS-136 networks and can deliver speeds of 240Kbits, will allow MobilTel to free network capacity for its voice operations. The new service will initially be available only in Sofia. The company's EDGE tariff will be identical to its GPRS charge.
