The privatisation of the 67% stake in Municipal Bank held by the Sofia municipality is delayed indefinitely, Dnevnik learned from municipal councillors. The business policy commission of the Sofia municipal council has already missed the September 9 deadline for the submission of the strategy for the privatisation of the stake as well as the end-October deadline for the preparation of the tender documents for the selection of a sell-off consultant. Municipal councillors said the most likely scenario now is the privatisation of a minority share of the municipal stake. Another option is to sell the stake of the Sofia municipality to other municipalities so that over 50% of the bank would be owned by the public sector. EBRD had deposited a letter of intent saying that it sought to buy a 20% of Municipal Bank while Dexia Kommunalkredit Bank was said to be pursuing at least a 51% participation. In related news, Municipal Bank supervisory board chairman Lyubomir Pavlov said the bank intended to open branches in Serbia and Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania. The bank executives mingled with counterparts from South-east Europe at an ongoing economic forum in Sofia on Tuesday in a bid to sign on investors for an array of infrastructure projects including that Sofia-Nis motorway, the construction of a second bridge over the Danube section shared by Bulgaria and Romania and the Sofia-Skopje railway.
