Prime Minister Ivan Kostov said on Saturday the problems at the Vazov Mechanical Engineering Works in Sopot could be solved through restructuring of production and a rehabilitation programme. Workers at the plant which is part of the military-industrial complex have been on strike for 24 days, claiming back wages for several months. They refuse to resume work, although Finance Minister Mouravei Radev offered an interest-free loan of BGN 5.5 million with which the workers would be paid minimum wages and the rest of the sums due would be paid once an order agreed by the management was fulfilled. Kostov expressed hope that a way out could be found if negotiations resumed on Monday. The finance minister said the state was ready to increase four times its order to the works this year.
