In 2008 the total assets of the non-banking financial sector totaled BGN 3bn (up 32% YoY). Loans grew by 38% YoY to BGN 2.8bn (4.3% of GDP). Bad loans almost doubled YoY to BGN 194m or 7% of the portfolio. On a quarterly basis the lending portfolio grew by 4% and bad loans increased by 34%.
