Russia is still keen on acquiring share in Bulgarian power sector, being interested in the construction of the country's second nuclear plant in Belene and researching opportunities to apply for power utilities in Varna, Russe and Bobov Dol. Russian Ambassador Anatoli Potapov, who is visiting the southern Bulgarian town of Plovdiv, announced also that Russia had submitted the full set of application documents for the construction and equipment of Belene nuclear plant. The US consultants of the project - Parsons - have advised that the country fixes two Russian-made VVER 1,000-MW. A Czech-made 1,000-MW unit of the Russian VVER-1,000 type was supplied at the Belene site in the late 1980s and is still stored there waiting to be fixed.
