In its January 2021 Global Economic Prospects report, the World Bank revised downwards the forecast about Bulgaria’s GDP growth in 2021 from 4.3% in its June’20 report to just 3.3%. Note, that this is the second downward revision of the recovery expectations after the World Bank already projected slower growth of 3.9% in its COVID-19 and Human Capital report, published in Oct’20. The expectations about Bulgaria’s GDP growth in 2020 are revised to a decline of 5.1%, which is better than the -6.2% forecast in June, but in line with the projections from October. 2022 growth forecast is also slashed to 3.7% from 4.1% in the Oct’20 report. The short-term perspective for the economy is worsened by the newly implemented stricter COVID-19 restrictions throughout Europe. The report warns that economies, which rely heavily on tourism, may be heavily hit, since many countries implemented stricter travel rules.
